| Your bronze sculpture, and more specifically its artistic
patina, is fairly sensitive to color changes caused by exposure to the atmosphere.
Therefore, it is recommended that some simple measures be taken to protect
it. (However if you prefer--as some collectors do--to let your
bronze sculpture age naturally, no maintenance of any kind is
required. Simply relax and enjoy the slow, subtle, ongoing changes
that will occur over time.)
When you first receive your bronze sculpture, its patina will already
have had a protective coating of wax and/or lacquer applied.
However, if you would like to maintain the vivid patina you should
re-apply a thin coat of wax once or twice a year.
Supplies needed:
-
Paste wax (Carnauba wax in
the form of "Tree Wax" or "Johnson's Paste Wax")
-
Soft bristle brush
-
Soft, clean cloth
Application:
-
Apply a thin coat of wax
using a soft bristle brush (never use a rag for this). You might
notice a darkening of the patina when the wax is applied but as the
wax dries, the original color will return.
-
After the wax has dried for
approximately 1 hour, wipe the bronze until you achieve the desired
glow or sheen.
NOTE: Never use household
cleaners or furniture polishers that might have cleaning agents in
them. They will only remove your protective wax exposing the patina
to the atmosphere.
For highly polished bronze
sculptures or sections of sculptures, you may use a chrome or silver
cleaning cream as needed (be careful not to get any on the surrounding
patina color). Apply, let dry, then buff with a soft, clean cloth.
