Mounting Your Sculpture

(Bases and Pedestals)

Bases

What we're calling a "base" is the part that supports the sculpture.  For example, the bronze sculpture to the left is attached to, or mounted on, a wood "base".

There are a myriad of materials that make excellent bases.  Most of the smaller bronze sculptures come mounted on a hardwood base.  Each wooden base has a brass name tag with the title of the piece and the artist’s name.  If you'd prefer a different inscription, just let us know.  (The largest sculptures come with a bronze plaque.)

You have your choice of any domestic hard wood or the more exotic African Rosewood (Ed's favorite) included in the price of the sculpture.  Other exotic woods are available but for an additional charge (see choices below).

For smaller sculptures, Ed thinks wood bases are as practical as they are beautiful.  But we can mount your sculpture on just about any material or combination of materials you choose.  Custom bases can be made from marble (see list below), metal, granite, concrete, etc.  We can even create a faux finish if you like.  Call the studio and speak with the artist himself for expert advice.

Pictured to the left is a 1/2 life-size Grape Picker mounted on a 3' green marble (Empress Green) base that was built to order by "Stonewurks" in Kansas City.

As a reference, the woman in the pictures below is 5'8" tall.

Of course, nothing says you have to have a fancy base.  In fact, the picture below is a good example of the tasteful use of a simple bronze base (about 1/2" thick) in a garden setting.

Pedestals

Your bronze sculpture is a work of art.  Many owners simply display their mounted bronze on a table, fireplace mantle, or bookcase shelf.  Others prefer to showcase their sculpture atop a pedestal.

A pedestal is used for the purpose of raising the sculpture to viewing height.  This places the sculpture closer to eye level for ease of viewing.

The photo to the left shows various sizes of bases and pedestals.

Pedestals are common place in galleries and museums but can also work in some residents as well.

If you'd like to really "show off" your bronze, you might consider having a pedestal made to order.  We can do completely custom work.   Just let us know what you have in mind or let the artist make a tasteful suggestion.
